Conversations of the media ....

Good afternoon and welcome back to another post from ToBeSecured.

I know lately the focus of my blog has been targeted towards location services, but that seems to be the biggest wave this year. I’m constantly coming across issues that relates to this topic and inspired to gain your perspectives about each situation.

I’m not sure if you all are comfortable yet with conversing with me about anything, but please feel free to leave comments. The whole purpose of my blog is to communicate with my subscribers to understand what you all feel, are thinking, and want to talk about. Share with your family, friends, loved ones, children, coworkers, professors, students, etc. Thank you in advance!

Today, i’ll be discussing three topics once again: iPhone glitches, a conversation from Twitter, and a conversation amongst my family members the other day.

About 3 days ago, users of iPhones were experiencing some technical difficulties where they weren’t able to make FaceTime calls, send iMessages, or enable the features after restarting their devices. I was also affected by this problem, but I thought my connection weakened as I was already on a FaceTime call. I noticed it wasn’t an issue with my connection once I tried to send a imessage to my bestfriend but my once blue iMessage turned into a green text message. After scrolling through Twitter, I found that others were having the same issue. The status system page showed there were no issues on Apple’s iCloud. The outage seemed to have affected numerous carriers of AT&T and Verizon. Again, apple support had no idea of the issues going on and the status system obviously was behind on what made users frustrated and vent via social media. Apple now reports all service as “fixed”.

Secondly, I scrolled past a tweet the other day from one of my followers. If you haven’t noticed by now, Twitter is my go to for information because I know I can count on my followers to help me draft up my content on Wednesday’s. On Monday May 20, 2019, one of my followers tweeted “y’all be sharing y’all location indefinitely?”. As I’m thinking to myself, *scroll pass the tweet girl... don’t click on the comments*, I clicked on it anyway. Some of the comments read: “🤷🏾‍♀️ Why not lol”, “Most Def”, “Sure do, what’s wrong? lol”, “with my man of course”, “100% yes. With all my close friends and mom.”. It would be easy to tell each of you to refer to previous posts for reason of these answers all being illogical and illegitimate, but I won’t. Join the conversation in the comments and tell my why you think these comments from this tweet are not good reasons to share your location “indefinitely“. I’ll start as soon as I’m done drafting up this post.

The third and last conversation I want to insert into my blog is one from a recording from my cell phone. One of my siblings is refusing to start using online banking because of reasons such as identity theft, the convenience of having cash, and being new to the thought of carrying a card. Well, my family was ready and willing to give her some advice and take the fear away along with safety tips and testimonies. I’m not able to upload the video because it has to be a link from an external site, but I can tell you what was said. The video starts with my aunt saying “If you have a bank like Essential, they backtrack and whoever was behind you, they’ll put your money back and go after them. That’s why I say it’s good to have protection.” —> identity theft. She then goes on to tell about her husband being a truck-driver and shares his testimony about stopping at truck stops and if a hacker tries to steal his information they can be tracked and trace it when putting his money back into his account. This is because of the security protection factor. My papa then adds on “The first thing is if someone takes my card and makes a big purchase, they’ll call me right away and notify me because I’m not used to making that kind of purchase.“ —> identity theft. My aunt adds on “Yes, he has the bank notifications where they’ll notify him of the purchases he made as well as how much. It doesn’t necessarily mean someone is stealing, they are just alerting you. You just have to be careful at all times.” Papa - “You have to be careful with a card. And be mindful.” Sister - “They ask for your 16 digit card number, cvv number, and expiration date.” Of course I’m sitting in the corner absorbing all the knowledge and information to relate to others. My mom then points out I’m recording and at that point I pressed stop. In conclusion, my sibling is still skeptical of opening an account and it’s completely normal because everyone isn’t open to change. Do you utilize online banking? I do and I take the same safety precautions. Do not share your information with anyone and do not write it down because someone can get a hold of your personal financial statements. Whether withdrawing or depositing money, complete your transactions alone and always pull the atm card reader before inserting your card. Scammers are everywhere and we all can become a victim of identity theft. Those are just a few life tops for my card users. If you have any additional concerns or questions, feel free to email me or comment below.

If you would like to discuss further, please leave a comment or ask a question. I'd love to chat with my readers and hear your thoughts. Thank you for dropping in and remember ToBeSecured!

As I stated in my post, I’ll share why the comments under the tweet are illegitimate. Leaving your location enabled is not the wave and can be a harm to yourself and others. I know there are instances of kidnap, human trafficking, or other cases but sharing your location “indefinitely” is not a legit reason for that. I was just on call where I asked a friend of mine if their location was disabled. It’s second nature to me now because it can be very dangerous especially when allowing applications to use it. For specific reasons or testimonies, ask questions directed towards the post and I’ll answer.
