Good afternoon and welcome back to another post from ToBeSecured. We've made it to another Wednesday and we're almost halfway through the week. Today, I've decided to address the question I often get asked from other people who I've met in the past: Are you a hacker? As you all know, I have a background in cyber security and am working towards a masters in this field of study as well. Cyber security isn't or shouldn't always be associated with hacking or at least a malicious hacker. Before I answer this question, if you haven't already, visit my Instagram page: ToBeSecured to view the new episode of Cyber Tuesdays from yesterday. My additional social media could be found at the footer of this page as well.
So, you really want to know if I hack people's information? Well, before I answer this question, I want you to know that all hackers aren't bad hackers. There's hackers who wear hats: white, black, and/or grey. Hacking itself is not an illegal activity unless the hacker is compromising a system without the owner's permission. The whole hat thing originated from old western movies where the bad guys usually wears a black hat. There are two main factors that determine the type of hacker you've run into: their motives and whether or not they are breaking the law.
Although I have a background in cyber security and I applaud white hat hackers, I am not a hacker. I have no interest in hacking people, things, information, devices, etc. My interest and passion is more focused on who's hacking what (Black hat hackers) and their motives for doing so. This blog serves as a platform for me to share case studies, data breaches, tips, and other useful information that, sometimes, involve hackers. So, to answer everyone's questions, I am not a hacker, but am interested in hacking incidents and news. And even if I were, I still wouldn't admit to it. :)
Now that I've answered this question a lot of you have been asking, spread the word and let your friends and family know I AM NOT A HACKER!!! A lot of people also assume I am a computer engineer, which in the future I may dabble in engineering of phones/computers to offer services to my community. That's another story for another day, but I wanted to point that out also for my people who think I fix phones when they break or laptops.
What I can assist you with is directions or advice if your email gets hacked, you were involved in a recent data breach, your identity has been stolen, or you need help setting up an account or device you've just downloaded or purchased. If it has to do with hardware, visit the geek squad at Best Buy, but if you have a software issue, I'M YOUR GIRL! Please read my posts and they will give you an idea on what I have knowledge about.
