Replacing Privacy with Convenience and Ease of Access

Good evening and welcome back to another episode from ToBeSecured. So, to give you a recap of what I talked about during episode 3 of Cyber Tuesdays, the topic of discussion was the new fifth generation network and Internet of Things, the benefits of 5G and how the two correlate with one another going forward in the near future. If you haven't already, go ahead and visit my Instagram page @ToBeSecured and watch that episode.

With the topic I want to discuss today, I will try my best to keep it brief as possible and allow you all to gain some insight on what is happening outside of the U.S. On today's topic, we will be talking about how Sweden's residents are becoming micro-chipped, which will aid in financial transactions, traveling, and unlocking doors.

Sweden’s Biohax International has patented a microchip that can be injected into a human hand and used to carry out financial transactions, unlock doors, and access information. Jowan Österlund, 38, began his company in 2013 and, according to Fortune magazine, Biohax has now inserted microchips into 4,000 people in Sweden and others from across Europe. Österlund told Fortune that he believes “millions” more will want to be injected with the chip. Sweden is already almost cashless, and Swedes trust their government too much to think it  would use technology against them.

The microchip basically acts as a digital key chain of sorts and it utilizes NFC (near-field communication) to send information via wireless means from a passive chip to a reader, but only when they are about 4 centimeters apart from each other. What’s even more interesting, is that as the technology progresses, the implant will be able to do even more.

His chip can carry train tickets, and Sweden’s national railways are entirely “bio-chip-capable,” Fortune reported. Many of the country’s “Nordic Wellness” gyms are equipped to recognize bio-chips as passcards, keys, and passwords to personal information. Fans describe the injected chips as more secure than electronic keys and less cumbersome than the conventional metal ones.

The microchip technology isn’t new, as it’s very similar to what veterinarians use to implant in dogs and cats so that their owners can find them in the event that they are lost or ran away. Additionally, some Swedish biohackers have been having “implant parties” in an underground activity since at least 2015. But now, microchipping has found its way to regular means and become mainstream.

It’s important to note that, as with any form of advanced technology, there are definite concerns. The NFC microchips give corporations a disturbing amount of control over you and your daily activities — including tracking where you are, how long of a lunch break you take and how often you use the bathroom. The microchips are also able to be hacked, which is a whole other set of concerns.

As I state in any video or post I write about, with any technology comes risks/vulnerabilities and opportunities for hackers to exploit them! First and foremost, if the world has become so much of lazy that we need to have microchips inserted into our bodies, then we are at risk for greater danger than we think. Secondly, I am a very religious person and given the bible speaks about this situation known as "the mark of the beast", it's important to understand you must never be branded as a person. We are not placed on this Earth to be sold or bought nor utilize items that allow us to scan our body parts. Technology has already taken it far enough with Face-ID and fingerprint scanning, so why is it that we must continue to go deeper than the surface l

evel to discover what else can be innovated using technology? Artificial intelligence has created a whole new domain for the world in which anything is possible and could create a kill mechanism. As it can create conveniences and solutions, it can create chaos and break the laws, privacy and security included.

A number of American states have introduced laws forbidding anyone to require that other human beings be chipped; this prevents employers from forcing their employees to have the device implanted. If this was to ever become legal in the United States, I won't be lining up to have my life signed away to the devil. You can speak about politics and religion being a non-factor in this subject, but the facts all present themselves and it's clear to see we need more strict guidelines and policies to follow when innovating and releasing new ideas. Morals, religion, values, and other important aspects should always be a factor in every case. And clearly, it's not in the case here.
